Common Questions on Transferring Legal Files

Transferring legal files or changing attorneys can seem like a daunting task. However, it is typically a much easier process than most would think. We get a lot of questions on this topic and wanted to share our insight!

Common questions:

  • What if my attorney is retiring or stops practicing?
  • What if I have had several attorneys?
  • What if my files are disorganized or extensive?
  • What if I haven’t been to my attorney for several years?

The simple answer to all of these questions is we can easily take care of any file transfer for you, so it’s not necessary for you to contact anyone.  We prepare an authorization for your signature that requests legal files be transferred to our office. We send the authorization on your behalf.  Upon receipt of your files, we review the information to ensure everything is in order and meet with you to discuss any other concerns you may have. We build on the information transferred to our office, so you don’t have to start over from scratch. If you still have questions, contact our office, we would be happy to assist you. Let us help take the stress out of your legal needs.
